The mission of Literacy Volunteers of Greater Syracuse (LVGS) is to teach adults how to read, write, and speak English. We do that by:

~Training volunteers to tutor using one-on-one instruction.

~Having a collaborative tutoring model that is student-centered.

~Providing literacy services in the workplace, libraries, and other public places that are convenient to the student and tutor.

~Serving primarily adults functioning at or below the 6th grade level.

LVGS provides Basic Literacy and ESOL tutoring for adults who have low reading skills and difficulty speaking and understanding English. People come to LVGS because of our reputation as a leading literacy provider within the Syracuse community and our proven track record of helping individuals reach their life goals. Since its founding in 1962, LVGS has stressed learner-centered instruction and the use of real world materials in promoting literacy.
