Welcome to the Connecticut Commission on Community Service!

We’re thrilled to welcome the Connecticut Commission on Community Service to the America Learns Network community. We’ve served individual nonprofits and universities across Connecticut for a number of years.  After taking note of our track record in its state, the Commission has decided to partner with us to more easily collect and use data to monitor and support the performance of its AmeriCorps portfolio. This marks the fourth state service commission that we’ve had an opportunity to serve. Learn more about our work with service commissions.

From NYC’s Mayor’s Office…

We’ve been fortunate to work with the NYC Mayor’s Office for the past three years, helping its NYC Service team with all-things AmeriCorps — from timesheets to collecting and using their most important data from each host site. We just received the following e-mail from their office about our work together.     Thanks so much for the kind words, Ashley!!

A Place for Mindfulness Amid Grant Pressures?

I recently returned from the South Cluster National Service Conference in Nashville, where I was asked to create space for AmeriCorps and RSVP program leaders to really reflect upon, take stock of, and make concrete plans to improve AmeriCorps member and volunteer training, monitoring, and support practices. This workshop style was brand new for us.  Rather than dive right into the content, I first led participants through a guided mindfulness and meditation session in which we learned one strategy for reducing feelings of stress and fear around grant application deadlines, performance measures, logic models, and federal auditors. Here’s the initial…

Welcome to the Napa County Office of Education!

We’re thrilled to announce that the Napa County Office of Education has invested in the complete suite of our services for all four of its AmeriCorps programs. When we surveyed the team to describe the three main reasons for investing in our services instead of the other systems they evaluated over more than a year, here’s what they said: 1) time savings 2) improved accuracy of data 3) ability to respond in a timely way to AmeriCorps members’ successes and challenges The process of piloting our services with and learning from the Napa team over the past year has been…

Update on Our Work with South Carolina’s Service Commission

South Carolina’s service commission recently partnered with us to provide efficient, AmeriCorps-compliant timesheet services to all of its grantees. Commissions often wonder how many tech support calls and e-mails their program directors will end up sending to their technology partners during the setup and implementation process. After a month, we’ve received a total of two questions from the seven programs we’re serving in the state, and one of those questions was a feature request. Is this normal?  Yes and no. South Carolina is the first state to roll out our timesheet services to each of its AmeriCorps programs, so we…

Salesforce for AmeriCorps Programs: Making it Happen Wisely and Inexpensively

As more and more AmeriCorps programs switch to the free, nonprofit version of Salesforce.com to manage key member info (contact details, background check status, the status of other paperwork being submitted), some programs are also spending tons of money on consultants to customize the free edition of Salesforce. We’re wondering if any AmeriCorps program directors would be interested in us putting together a tutorial video on how to customize Salesforce on your own to easily manage all of this info — without paying consultants to do it.  It’d be a two to five hour investment of your time (depending on what you want to track),…
