Impact at AmeriCorps Tallahassee

At least once a year, we spend 90 minutes with each of the leaders using the Impact Suite’s Data+, Learning, and Communications services, figuring out how we can continue innovating to make life better for those we serve (and, of course, for the people they serve). Earlier this morning, we led one of these sessions with Donna Harper, the leader of AmeriCorps Tallahassee.  During the conversation, we brainstormed on innovations we could bring to our student tracking system and on how we can give AmeriCorps members more abilities to use data wisely throughout the year. While reflecting on the budget hit that…

“A Blessing”

We just received the following e-mail from Volunteer Mississippi’s AmeriCorps Program Officer.  The e-mail is about the service commission’s use of the AmeiCorps Impact Suite’s timesheet service, which is ultimately used to ensure that taxpayer dollars are being spent wisely. It’s such an honor to be in our 11th year of serving Mississippi’s national service community. _______

First Family Celebrates MLK Day with Jumpstart

Yet another AmeriCorps Impact Suite member is getting facetime with the Obama family.  This time, it’s Jumpstart. To underscore his commitment to both national service and early education, President Obama rolled up his sleeves this past MLK Day to cut, glue, and prepare materials for Jumpstart classrooms in DC.  The First Family assembled books for children to write and illustrate their own stories in Jumpstart’s Writing Center and created notecards to help children identify the correct uppercase and lowercase letter pairings in an effort to build alphabet knowledge. Jumpstart’s research-based, cost-effective program trains college students and community volunteers to serve preschool-age…

Kale Man and Bucky Leaves!

Impact Suite member Farm to School AmeriCorps in Wisconsin recently shared the following photos with us, and we just had to share them with you. Kelly Hammond, a Nutrition Educator with the AmeriCorps program, put together a lesson on food marketing where students worked to create marketing ideas to encourage other kids to eat more healthy fruits and vegetables. Enter KALE MAN! The student who created Kale Man had just tried kale chips for the first time and loved them.  He created his kale mascot to represent the vegetable and to encourage more kids to try our green leafy friend.  The…

Evaluating Data Products and Services

Recently, Data Analysts for Social Good asked us to provide nonprofit leaders with a run-down of the most important parts of evaluating and on-boarding data products and services.  This topic is near and dear to our hearts.  Way, way too many nonprofits invest in high-priced software and services, only to find that they’re never used or used to their full potential. Leaders can take concrete steps to ensure that they’re investing in the right service and are preparing to implement that service in a wise way. If you’re currently evaluating an America Learns Impact Suite, this video will give you a…
