What We Do
Seed
funded by Echoing Green in 2003, we now work with tutoring,
mentoring and teacher education programs reaching more than
20,000 students worldwide.
Organizations use our
Performance Measurement & Learning
Network to ensure that their educators (tutors, pre-service
teachers, mentors) have the skills and knowledge needed for
success
while reducing the amount of time and money spent on
reporting, performance measurement and evaluation. The
Network is especially ideal for child- and adult-focused
literacy programs.
Recently, we've begun to work with public and private
grantmakers as well, harnessing the power of our Network to
help grantmakers track the progress of and provide
personalized support to their grantees worldwide.
The Reasons We're Here
We
were born out of our founder's experience of
volunteering to tutor children and then finding that his
program's staff were often overwhelmed with a myriad of
responsibilities and that the volunteers (himself
included), though full of good intentions, often lacked
the necessary knowledge and competencies to provide high
quality services to the students.
After interviewing and surveying hundreds
of on-the-ground tutors, academic mentors and program
staff members around the types of support
they feel they need to best serve their students, we
spent three years developing a service that accomplishes
the goals listed above and discussed in greater depth
here.
